New to me is a different style of poetry to the way I would usually write. This is the 2nd time this style of writing has flowed out of me. It is unedited, which I love as it's raw. (Seems to be one of my favourite words haha) but it feels this is exactly how it's meant to be. My normal style of poetry would be very rhymy, and it flows, but it takes time to finalise.
I feel as I personally grow, my writing style is also growing, unlocking more creativity hence this new style of writing coming forth, which is exciting!
I've been journaling quote a lot lately as I take care of me and get back in touch with my spiritual side, and have been using writing prompts from a deck of cards I intuitively feel calling to me.
This morning the card "Queen of Keys" fell out of the deck while I shuffled and as I picked up the card, I smiled, it was such a beautiful moment and rather than journaling, I felt a poem coming.
A Queen atop her Castle
There she stands, book in hand, looking out the wild blue yonder
Her smile showing her dimples in her cheeks.
Across the land she sees it, the view she imagined many a year,
The peaceful serenity of rolling hills, trees, and greenery.
The birds play in the trees nearby, singing their favourite morning song,
The sun above the horizon on its way to warm the day.
What a beautiful day, what a life,
It wasn’t always this way, for the climb atop her castle was long,
With winding broken stairways and dangerous leaps.
But there was a light above, calling, telling her to keep climbing
For in the light would be her dreams, whatever they were.
So there she stands above the world, smiling,
For its not for being atop the castle which sees her joy, it’s the joy of being able to stand freely, having climbed the stairs below.
It does not matter what your story has been, or what lies in your past, it doesn't have to be your future. You are the author of your story.
"Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present."
Never dismiss the power of your voice, or your story.
You are not what happened to you.
Your past does not define your future.
Find your colour and let it shine.
